Research Interests

The Gartner Lab is working to guide the self-organization of the body’s cellular building blocks into functional tissues spanning the micron to meter length scales. We focus on the human breast as a model organ and are developing concepts and tools to reconstruct components of the organ from the bottom up. Through our efforts, we hope to gain a deeper understanding of how populations of cells self-organize robustly, reach decisions as groups, and become dysfunctional during the progression of diseases like breast cancer.
