Synthetic biology researchers at UC Berkeley and Lawrence Berkeley Laboratory have developed computer assisted design (CAD)-type models and simulations for RNA molecules that make it possible to engineer biological components.

Three graduate faculty win NIH Director’s New Innovator awards

Three faculty of the UC Berkeley – UCSF Graduate Program in Bioengineering were selected for NIH New Innovator awards. Professors Edward Chang and Bo Huang of UCSF and Michelle Chang of UC Berkeley were among those selected for 2011.
2012 Siebel Scholars named

The Siebel Foundation has announced the names of five UC Berkeley Bioengineering graduate students who have been named Siebel Scholars. The Siebel Scholars program recognizes outstanding graduate students from the world’s most prestigious business, computer science, and bioengineering graduate schools. Each of the Class of 2012 Siebel Scholars will receive a $35,000 award for his or her final year of graduate studies.

Bioengineering – A Family Affair

Bushra Samad will be receiving her B.S. in Bioengineering from Berkeley this month, but she’s not leaving. Bushra will be staying on as a Ph.D. student in the Bioengineering Graduate Group – and her twin daughters will be entering their second year as Berkeley undergrads. Her daughter Tahoura is also a Bioengineering major, while Aaida is a pre-med in Molecular and Cell Biology.
