November 18, 2011 –
UC Irvine Associate Professor and graduate program alumna Michelle Khine has been named a “Top Scientist” in the 2011 Women on Top Awards by Marie Claire Magazine, in the November 2011 issue.
Khine is best known for the method she devised to fabricate microfluidic chips using ShrinkyDink toys – without the need for a clean room and millions of dollars in sensitive and expensive equipment.
Khine is the scientific founder of Shrink Nanotechnologies, Inc. and also co-founded Fluxion Biosciences, Inc. while she was a graduate student at UC Berkeley. After receiving her Ph.D. from the UC Berkeley – UCSF Graduate Program in Bioengineering under Professor Luke Lee, she became an Assistant Professor at UC Merced, later moving to the Department of Bioengineering at UC Irvine.
Congratulations Michelle!
