April 2005
Our Bioengineering graduate program has been named one of the top ten Bioengineering/Biomedical Engineering schools in the country by the 2006 US News and World Report “America’s Best Graduate Schools” review. This ranking is up three places from last year’s.
The joint UCB/UCSF bioengineering graduate program is tied for tenth place with Rice University in Texas. Both schools received a score of 3.8 out of 5.0 points.
To rank bioengineering programs, the survey compares the quality, student selectivity, faculty resources, and research activity of participating schools based solely on assessments by department chairs of departments in each specialty. In this way, the rankings are based on name recognition and reputation, not hard data. The UCB/UCSF graduate program has been climbing the rankings as word of our excellent program and faculty gets out.
As a whole, the College of Engineering at UC Berkeley once again ranked as the third best engineering school in the country, based on both peer reviews and submitted data.
