BioE and EECS teams were the winners of this year’s Berkeley Technology Breakthrough Competition, an annual event sponsored by the Center for Entrepreneurship and Technology.The contest featured projects that can be applied within the next five years to make the world a better place. BioE graduate students Tanner Nevill and Nick Torillo won the overall Science category for their SeroScreen device, “a disposable microdevice for point-of-care diagnostics”. This project was also the focus of their recent trip to Ecuador, where the studied use of the device for Dengue Fever screening.
An EECS team took first place in the Information Technology category. Those two teams beat 14 other finalist to walk away with $10,000 each.
Another BioE team of professor Steve Conolly, grad student Patrick Goodwill and Haas student Raphael Michel took home $1,000 for “Best Creativity” for their project “Pre-Polarized MRI Imaging for Non-Invasive Diagnosis Near Metal Implants.
