Aijun Wang and Zhenyu Tang, from UC Berkeley Bioengineering Professor Song Li’s lab, are the winners of the 2012 Deloitte QB3 Award for Innovation. Tang is a bioengineering graduate student, while Wang is a former postdoc and currently Aijun Wang an assistant professor of surgery at UC Davis.
The two performed research demonstrating that vascular stem cells, not smooth muscle cells, may be the cause of hardened arteries and much vascular disease. The award comes with a $10,000 prize.
