Future Scientist, a non-profit organization started by several Bioengineering grad students, returned from the first Program in Sustainable Design in Panama. During spring break, five UC Berkeley students participated in an intensive hands-on program where they constructed a dam, installed a chlorination system, and taught local high school students about water quality. Gautham Venugopalan and Richard Novak taught lessons in engineering design specifically tailored to the requirements of projects in resource-poor areas while the program participants developed their own projects that will be implemented in subsequent trips.
