Cells are remarkable! Every one of us has trillions. (About a quadrillion if you are an elephant). Everything inside a cell moves. All the time. Intracellular movements are coordinated by the cytoskeleton, and we ask how these systems control cell dynamics and morphogenesis in human tissue culture models, such as cancer and hiPSC-derived neurons by using advanced microscopy, optogenetics and microfabrication. While we primarily work on proteins related to the microtubule cytoskeleton – how they work normally and what goes wrong in human disease – there is broad overlap with many other dynamic cell biological processes. I would be delighted to discuss potential projects with prospective students.
