Tejal Desai, UCSF Professor of Bioengineering and Therapeutic Sciences and Chair of the Bioengineering Graduate Program, has been awarded the 2012 Paul R. Dawson Biotechnology Award from the American Association of Colleges of Pharmacy.
The award recognizes Desai for her significant contributions to teaching and scholarship in the field of biotechnology.
Desai graduated with a PhD in bioengineering from the Berkeley-UCSF Bioengineering Graduate Program in 1998 and went on to become the first faculty hire for University of Illinois at Chicago’s bioengineering department. Later, she headed the center in bionanotechnology and biomicroelectromechanical systems at Boston University. In 2005, Desai returned to California to become a UCSF professor.
