On August 5, 2014 UC President Janet Napolitano visited UCSF to learn more about the UCSF-Tuskegee Partnership in Bioengineering and meet with some of the current participants.
The UC Office of the President has recognized the UCSF-Tuskegee Partnership in Bioengineering as an exemplary program among its UC-Historically Black Colleges and Universities (UC-HBCU) Initiative. The UC-HBCU Initiative seeks to improve the representation of African-Americans in UC graduate programs, particularly Ph.D. programs, by investing in relationships and efforts between UC faculty and Historically Black Colleges and Universities.
Dr. Tracy McKnight, Associate Professor in Residence of Radiology and member of the Bioengineering Graduate Program, is Director of the Partnership.
The program consists of the UCSF-Tuskegee Summer Internship in Bioengineering, an internship grant that targets students early in their academic training, and the UCSF-Tuskegee Partnership in Bioengineering, a Pathways Grant that facilitates interaction between students and faculty at the two campuses with internships, UCSF graduate student mentors, and continuation of summer research projects into the school year.
